The local area

The vibrant village of Cartmel is known for its unspoilt historic setting, Lakeland fell views, local gift shops and fabulous eateries. But of course, Cartmel Racecourse takes pride of place and is a main attraction here, bringing the village alive on race days. Enjoy lazy days ambling around the ancient buildings or visit the 12th century Priory Church, which stands at the heart of the village where you can admire its incredible architecture and uncover its rich history. Cartmel is close to many places of interest around Cumbria, with Grange-Over-Sands, Morecombe Bay and the Lake District just a stone’s throw away. History lovers can visit Holker Hall and Gardens, or Levens Hall, while families should head for Ducky’s Park Farm, Lakes Aquarium or the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway.
